Women and Missions
First Baptist Church is blessed to have a Women’s Missionary Union Ministry that is passionate about fulfilling the vision and focus of the WMU. The women of First Baptist who comprise our various WMU groups are dedicated to meeting spiritual and physical needs across the street and around the world. In addition to active participation in missions, our WMU works tirelessly to help education our church of the importance of following God’s call to be “on mission.”
History and Purpose of the WMU:
Founded in 1888, the Woman's Missionary Union is an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention that seeks to equip adults, youth, children and preschoolers with missions education to become radically involved in the mission of God. It is this passion that drives the WMU in their vision statement:
The WMU challenges Christian believers to understand and be radically involved in the mission of God.
The Missions Focus of Woman’s Missionary Union:
- Pray for and give to missions.
- Participate in missions.
- Learn about missions.
- Develop spiritually toward a missions lifestyle.
- Work in conjunction with our local church and denomination.
